Independence Day Spent at Home

July 8, 2020
Chuck Clegg , Wetzel Chronicle

4th of July 2020 was to be celebrated this past Saturday in our community. But the annual event in Bruce Park did not take place this year. The tradition of enjoying great music while children played games was not to be found in the park. Under the shade of aged trees there were no crafters selling their creations for event visitors to purchase. And sadly, there was no Uncle Sam (aka Carman Harman) welcoming all those who came out to celebrate our country's birthday. Instead, only the rustle of the wind in the chestnut trees could be heard. The near empty park was just one more reminder what the coronavirus has taken from each of us. From the staff of the Wetzel Chronicle, we wish our great country, "Happy Birthday America."
