Spotlight: Jake Gamble

I asked Jake some questions about himself and his athletic career at MHS, and here are his answers.

What are three reasons you like being part of a team sport? I enjoy competition, comradely with my team mates and being a leader.

What is the best part about competing? Playing your best again the competition and seeing who comes out on top.

How do your teammates make practice fun? Applauding each other for good work and friendly competition.

What is your favorite sports quote? They should not have played the "Old Gold and Blue tonight." Bill Stewart

What emotions do you feel when you play well? Achievement, excitement, and self-worth.

Who do you wish was watching you perform at every game or match? My Grandparents- Norman and Joan Gamble.

What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing? "Dreams and Nightmares." By Meek Meal

What is your favorite movie about sports? "We Are Marshall"

What qualities do you think make a teammate a good team captain? Leadership and reasonable thinking.

What is the one thing you always do after a good performance? Meet with my Family.

What do you do to calm your butterflies while you compete? Concentrate on the Game.

If you could play another sport what would it be? Football

What age were you when you started your sport? Four years old.

Do you have a plan to help you get to your best-focused state? Fresh shave.

What is your favorite food to eat the night before a big competition? Chinese Food.

Do you use visual cues of your environment to help you focus? Yes

Who inspired you as a young athlete? Many Magnolia Legions.

What one word describes you? A Competitor.

Who was your favorite coach and why? Baseball, Dave Cisar. He pushed me to be the best I could be in Baseball. In basketball, Mark Winters, He taught me a lot about the game.

What do you give up to play sports? Time

What is your favorite place to compete? Magnolia High School gymnasium.

What mental tool do you use under pressure? Focus

Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Yes, very much so.

What image gets you ready to compete? The Magnolia across my chest.

How does being an athlete inspire you to do good? Always striving to be the best possible.

How does athletics make you a better student or worker? It taught me Accountability and Responsibility, and Leadership.

If you could go back in time, what one person you would want to talk to for 30 minutes and why? Ryan Cisar and talk about the game of Baseball.

What are some of your strengths and weaknesses? My strengths, willing to do what is best for the team, including making sacrifices, and my weakness-my torn ACL.

What is it that truly separates the average athlete from the good or the good athlete from the great? Ability to be coached and willingness to do what ever it takes.

Can you see yourself playing this sport(s) at the next level, and if it is what would your coach to do to help you get there? I could see my self playing either sport at the next level and my coaches would be willing to do all they can to get me there.

Is there anything you would like to tell people that most people don't know about you that you would like to let people know about you? I appreciate all of the support from family, friends, and the community during my years as a Blue Eagle.
