Spotlight On Trevor Williamson

The Magnolia boys basketball program has had a long tradition in bringing out top male basketball athletes. This season is no different as sophomore point guard Trevor Williamson stepped up. Trevor helped the Blue Eagles qualify for this years WVSSAC Class-1A boys basketball tournament as he and his teammates had to beat a very good St Marys and Cameron team to get in the dance.

Trevor drilled a 3-pointer right before the buzzer to de-throne St Marys for the Region I, Section II title, and played a big role against the Cameron Dragons to claim the Region I, Co-Championship to put them into the state tournament.

However, shortly after, we got this virus thing that wiped out any chance of the state tournament taking place. Williamson played a major role in the Eagles success due to his play and leadership is this weeks Spot-Light Athlete.

Here are a few questions that were asked of Trevor.

What memory do you have so far? He replied, Hitting the game-winning 3-pointer against St Marys in the Region I, Section II championship.

What is your favorite food? Mac and Cheese. What is your favorite subject in school? Algebra. Are there any pre-game rituals? After school, I go home and take a nap, I eat a cheese omelet.

In his two years of playing high school basketball, Trevor has collected several honors. He has won several Athlete of the Week honors, as well as a first-team Wetzel Chronicle and Tyler Star News. He also has earned All-State Honorable-Mention, and All-OVAC Conference 3-A.

Magnolia Assistant Coach Mark Winters had high praises for him. "Trevor has played well-beyond his years. He has handled the ball exceptionally well offensively and has excelled at the point guard. His defense, especially on the ball, was night and day from game one to the regional final. He was one of the hardest workers through the off-season, and flipped the switch when it came tournament time, and took over games."

"He was prepared for every situation because of the work he had put in. We only expect him to go up from here."

Some of his high-lights and stats from the season were knocking down four or more 3-pointers in a game multiple times. His highest scoring out-put came against Weirton Madonna where he scored 25-points, that included 7-baskets from beyond the arch. He tallied 21-points in the sectional final against St Marys, which included the game-winning triple. He scored 15-points in the regional final against Cameron, with most of them coming after his best friend and team captain Jake Gamble went down with an injury.

On the season, Trevor was third in scoring 277-points, and was second in free-throw shooting at 70%. He averaged over 3-assists per game and averaged over a steal a game, and over 3-rebounds. All totaled he has knocked down 113-3-pointers.
