The Wetzel County BOE met Monday, February 24, 2020 in regular session at the Board office in New Martinsville. The meeting was started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mr. McPherson and Brian Price delivered the invocation. Superintendent Mr. Ed Toman started off the meeting by suggesting the need for getting our students the proper training for the jobs in the area, such as Gas and Oil, Chemical Plants and other industry. Toman then turned the meeting over to Mandy McPherson to explain more about other schools that have had great success with training of their students, by showing a slide presentation of Starbase Victory in Portsmouth City Schools, Virginia.

Mandy, along with Mr. McPherson and Mrs. Wells attended and toured the Victory Elementary School, January 28 and 29, to check out the program and the way it works.

It is made up of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students that attend four days a week, Monday-Thursday, with the students rotating instructors every two days for professional development. The program has worked well for the Victory Elementary school in developing their students professionally and the McPherson's and Mrs. Wells are hoping to try and implement it in our schools.
