Long Time Law Enforcement Officer To Run For Magistrate

Donnie Harris, a Wetzel County native is running for Magistrate Court Judge to serve its citizens. Harris is currently employed by the New Martinsville Police Department as a Police Detective. He also is a Municipal Court Judge for the municipalities of Paden City, Sistersville and Middlebourne. He is a 30-year Law Enforcement veteran and 17- year sitting Municipal Court Judge.

Donnie has been married to Holly Burek Harris for 30 years. They have two sons Grant and Jarred. He presently resides in Reader, WV.

Harris believes his unique experience as a Law Enforcement Officer and as a Municipal Court Judge will allow him to adapt quickly to the job. He said "I have been living and breathing criminal law and procedures for the past 30 years".

Harris is a liaison to the Prosecutor's Office. He assists the Prosecutor's team by helping them prepare for grand jury. He is a county member of the Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team on Child Abuse. He is on the Sexual Assault Response Team as an investigator.

Harris is a liaison to the United States Attorney's Office. He facilitates meetings with Wetzel, Tyler and Pleasants County Law Enforcement and Prosecutors. He is a Special Sworn US Marshal assigned to the FBI's Violent Crimes Against Children and Human Trafficking Task Force. He is also on the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

Harris has a love for dogs and helped start the New Martinsville Police Department's first K-9 Program. He is certified by the Governor's Committee on Crime Delinquency and Correction as a Police K-9 Instructor. K-9 Havoc is assigned to him as a Narcotics Detection Dog. He also attended National K-9 and is a Master Trainer.

Harris is Pro 2ndAmendment and is one of the department's firearm instructors. He is certified in the areas of handgun, shotgun and patrol rifle.

As Municipal Court Judge you must attend yearly training to keep up your Certification.

Harris has attended over 17 training sessions. He has received training on trials, motions, arraignments, sentencing, ethics, and other court proceedings. He has used his training and experience as Municipal Court Judge to conduct Municipal Court.

As a Magistrate Court Judge, you make decisions daily that affect the lives of citizens by issuing arrest warrants and search warrants, sentencing offenders, setting bonds, issuing protective orders, civil judgements and much more. Harris believes he has more than just the minimum requirements to run for Magistrate Court Judge. Harris states" I have worked my entire career developing the skills, experience and knowledge to become your next Magistrate Court Judge".
