Eagles Dominate Seminoles in Win

February 5, 2020
By Bruce Crawford - Staff Writer , Wetzel Chronicle

After a slow start, Big Blue's senior leader Jake Gamble would not be denied offensively as he scored seven of the teams 10-first quarter points, while their defense smothered the Seminoles to hold on to a 10-4 lead

After the slow start, the Magnolia boys basketball picked it up on both ends of the floor with new addition Qwailei "Q" Turner picking up his game offensively scored 9-points in the quarter, including a pick-me-up-and-shut-it-down basket and one off an in-bounds pass under the basket to give the hosts a 27-18 heading into the locker room.

With only 3-players doing any scoring in the period for Magnolia, it was significant that junior sharp-shooter Trevor Wiliamson would also catch fire and drain a pair of triples, and a Gavin Postlewait rebound put-back that gave the Eagles the momentum heading into the locker room.

With the momentum clearly on the side of the Big Blue, Turner and Company went to work, out-scoring their guests 35-25 in the second half, that included runs of 7-0 in the third period and 6-0 run in the fourth. Turner scored 16 of his game-high 26-points in the second half of play, while Williamson swished two more bonus bombs in the second half, and Trenton Scheibelhood netted all 4-points in the fourth period that played key roles in the outcome.

Turner led all scores with 26-points, while Gamble was 2-boards away from a double-double, added 13-points, and Williamson drained all 12-points from beyond the arch.

In addition, Postlewait netted 3-deuces, while Scheibelhood accounted fo 4-points, and Devin Shimp swished a free-throw for all the Magnolia scoring.

For the Monroe Central Seminoles, Talin Babcock and Austin Hogue scored 15 and 10-points, respectively to pace the visitors.
