BOO-in-the-Park Celebrates A Success

November 6, 2019
Wetzel Chronicle

The New Martinsville Parks and Recreation sponsored their annual Boo-in-the-Park on Saturday night October 26, 2019 and the community responded to the event with an overflow crowd. Kids of all ages made their way to Bruce Park for a fun filled evening of activities, candy and of course some scary frights.

The ghosts and goblems were out in full force to haunt their way from one candy station to the next. However one of the unique things about the night of fun was the Haunted Boo Maze at the Bruce Pool. Arranged and presented in co-operation with the Parks, the Griffin Players a school theater group with kids from Magnolia and Paden City and directed by Dan Henthorn, the Haunted Pool was a delight to all who were able to find their way through. Some even returned for a second trip.

The New Martinsville Fire Department set up their large ladder truck, which lit up the sky as the extended ladders lit up in color. The shelters provided space for candy give aways and the putt-putt golf course was in heavy use with prizes and treats for all. It was a special night for the children of New Martinsville and one they are sure to remember for years to come. Nothing is more important in kids lives then the memories they make during their childhood days in their own communities.

The Haunted Pool was one attraction at this event.

Trick or treating is not the same as it was in years past, but it's still a great time to get out and join with other people in the community and have fun. Unofficial tallies show the event a huge success with an attendance of over 2,000 on Saturday night alone. It was a great job and a huge task to pull off an event this size, but New Martinsville has good people and many volunteers who always step up to make the best things happen.

The Parks and Recreation department under the direction of Bev Gibb did a wonderful job of making this years event one to remember.
