Foursome Earns Top Honors

October 23, 2019
Wetzel Chronicle

Rachel Snedden had her best match of the season, as she scored 17-points with 1-ace and 19-digs. She also added 1-assist and 1-kill to lead the way for the Lady Hornets against Morgantown Christian. She also scored 10-points with 1-ace, 9-digs, 3-blocks and 1-kill against Bellaire in volleyball action.

She then ran in the Cameron High School Wet and Wild Cross Country Meet, and was the area's top runner that placed in the top-14 with a solid time of 25:36.0 with 56-female athletes and 13-teams that earned her Athlete of the Week.

Also earning the Athlete of the Week are three Hundred football players. Martin Baker had a career night for the Hundred Hornets football team. He not only caught the game-winner from 82-yards, he hauled in 5-more passes for 107-total yards, he also had a fumble recovery and an interception that sealed the deal to give Hundred the win. Besides that he also was the top area runner at the Cameron Dragons Wet and Wild cross country Meet.

The final two Athlete of the Week players were defensive players Dylan Walton and Cody Poe. Walton, had a nice all around game. Not only did he help the running backs out by opening holes for them to run, he also helped protect his quarterback throw for 225-yards and 2TDs.

But, he made 10-tackles with 8-solo's, and a half a sack. He also recovered a fumble and made 2-interceptions.

Also Cody Poe surely needs some love too, as he was a warrior as a ball carrier, but as a defensive star to boot. Offensively, he accounted for 89-yards rushing of 19-carries, defensively he recorded 8-tackles, but he also had a half a sack and scored on a safety. He batted away 4-Hancock passes, with two being caught by teammate Walton.

There were many, many more area athletes deserving of the award, but had to stop somewhere.

Only high schools from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley can win the Athlete of the Week, and can only win once, except during a tournament or the playoffs.
