If you enjoy friends and neighbors, good food, fun and games, music and top notch Powerboat racing New Martinsville was the place to be this past weekend. APBA sanctioned powerboat racing has been in New Martinsville and the Ohio Valley for 81 years. RegattaFest was as exciting as any racing event you will ever witness.

191 moves down the quarter mile course at the New Martinsville Regatta fest.

Held on the Ohio River known for its great course and fast water the powerboat racing brought trills and chills to those who lined the riverbanks in Fireman's Park along RegattaFest way. This years event was the site for the North American Championships. Other things to do during the two day event included Saturdays car show by Crusiers Unlimited. The Kayak/Paddleboard race was held on Sunday, while a Corn Hole Tournament also took place. The Kid's zone was a busy place both days with the young ones enjoying games and inflatables.

There was something for everyone, but the main event got under way at 1 p.m. on Sunday with perfect weather.

People from all over the area and several states enjoyed the sights and sounds of engines roaring and boats traveling at speeds that could reach over 100 MPH over the quarter mile course.

The eight annual RegattaFest was awarded the right to host the North American Championships by the American Power Boat Association for the SST 120, SST 60, Super Sport, and the entire Thundercats Category. Receiving the right to host the event was easy because RegattaFest and the Mid-to-Upper Ohio Valley Region has a reputation among teams for fast water, an excellent racing location, super hospitality, a festival thatoffers more than boat racing, and a professional organization with 34 years of worldwide racing experience to conduct the championship.

Once again, the RegattaFest and the City of New Martinsville didn't disappoint as they provided a unique experience for everyone who made their way to the riverbank. Racing teams put on a great show and left with memories of this year and the thought of next year. Plans are already underway for the annual event that gets bigger and better each year.
