Creek Holds Off Magnolia

February 20, 2019

An early 9-0 run and a late 6-0 run by the Indian Creek Redskins proved too much for the Magnolia Blue Eagles to overcome, as they lost, 53-43, on Feb. 15 and inside Indian Creek Gymnasium. The boys basketball action was game two of the OVAC Consolation Pool.

The Blue Eagles' Trevor Williamson swished a three-pointer to open the game, but the Redskins used a 9-0 run to take an early lead, 9-3.

But the never-say-die Blue Eagles ,with a driving deuce by Jake Gamble and long-range bonus bomb by Jacob Miller, pulled the Eagles to 9-8.

The Redskins scored the first three third-quarter baskets, but Williamson and Miller each tickled the twine from beyond the arc to even things up at 27-27. After trading baskets, the Creek would score the next five points to take a five-point advantage, but Gamble scored three free throws to pull to within a deuce.

However, by the end of the period, Creek swished a buzzer-beating triple to take a 41-35 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

The Redskins opened the fourth with a 6-0 run, and would hold-off the Blue Eagles to get the win.

Gamble paced the Eagles with 18 points, which included 6-9 at the charity stripe, while Williamson followed with 15 markers, all by three-pointers. Likewise, Miller swished all six of his points from beyond the arc, while Damon Shimp tacked on a triple and a free throw for all the Magnolia scoring.
