The Hundred Hornets Boys Basketball team has had some ups and downs during the regular season, but you can't get any better than winning an Hometown Invitational Tournament, 67-56, thriller inside a jam-packed Hornets Nest on Jan. 26.

Both teams came out firing to open the game, as the Hornets Cody Soles and Logan Norris led the Hornets with 12 of the team's 17 points, while Tyler Carder netted eight of his team's 16 markers. Hundred, however, held on to a 17-16 first-quarter lead.

The play slowed down a bit in the second stanza, but the game would be tied up in the end of the period, 27-27, as Calhoun sank three baskets from beyond the arc, including a pair from Hayden Richard. Meanwhile, Andrew Zedell paced the 10-point Hundred scoring attack in the period with three deuces to lead the way offensively.

Both teams scored 14 third-period points, with Travis "Double-Double" McCoy doing most of the Hundred scoring, netting eight points, while Levi Allen swished a triple for Calhoun.

Both teams picked up their game big time, but McCoy, Soles and Norris were on fire for the Hornets as the three tallied all but three of the team's 26 fourth period points, en route to beating Calhoun.

McCoy paced four double-digit Hornet scorers with 20 points, while picking up a double-double with 15 rebounds. Norris followed with 16 markers, including one triple. Soles netted 13 points - including a monstrous dunk, dished out six assists, and blocked five shots. Zedell also had a double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling in 12 rebounds.

In addition, Aaron Stevens scored seven points and dished out six assists, while Adam Stephens sank a free throw.

Carder scored a game-high 23 points - including three bonus bombs - for Calhoun, while Richard and Adam Parsons scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Hornets, with an even reocrd at 6-6, have some big games coming up with Valley on Thursday and another H.I.T. team on Feb. 1. The Hornets will travel down WV 7 to take on the Magnolia Blue Eagles on Feb. 5; all varsity games tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
