Magnolia Captures Boggs Classic

The Blue Eagles' Kyndra Pilant compiled a double-double by scoring 40 points and grabbing 26 rebounds in wins over Tyler Consolidated and Morgantown Trinity, helping to lead Magnolia to its Boggs Roundball Classic win.

In the Jan. 19 championship match with highly-ranked Trinity, the Blue Eagles started out slow and fell behind, 17-14. However, the Eagles outscored the Lady Warriors, 40-32, the rest of the way to get the win, 54-49. Pilant led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Mady Winters brushed away a low-scoring opener and compiled a double-double 14 points and 16 rebounds, to go along with two blocked shots.In addition, Aquera Cabral had a good tournament too. She scored 33 points, including 10 baskets from beyond the arch in both games. She followed Pilant and Winters with 13 points and four treys in the championship contest. LaraAnn Smith scored two long-range bonus bombs, while Lenieca Grimm tallied a deuce, while dishing out six assists.

In the win over Tyler Consolidated in the Lady Eagles' opener, Pilant tallied 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Cabral tacked on 20 points, with six three-point baskets to lead Magnolia to a 55-42 victory. Winters was held to six points, but she grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked two shots and made two steals, while Grimm posted four points, six assists and had two steals. Smith and Reagan Hale each scored a deuce.

For Tyler Consolidated, Josey Jones tallied a team-high 20 points with one three point basket, while teammate Peyton Kocher cashed in 14 points, with four bonus bombs.

In the consolation game, the Silver Knights took care of the Valley Lumberjills, 60-42, to finish in third place.

Jamey West paced the Lumberjills with 14 points, while Shyanne Moore and Jenna Dallison scored eight and seven points, respectively. Caitlyn Underwood scored six points with one triple, while Rachel Bates netted five points, and Emma Ueltschy added two points.

In the 'Jills opener with Trinity, the Lady Warriors outscored the 'Jills, 28-10, in the second stanza to break open a close game, winning 67-33. Underwood was the only double-digit scorer for the Lumberjills with 12 markers, including three baskets beyond the arch. Moore followed with eight, while Dallison netted five points.

In addition, West, Bates, Ueltschy and Karleca Utt each tallied two points for all the Valley scoring.
