Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. After today we will be getting ready for those New Year's resolutions that will be headlining this week's column.

In the past, I have started having New Year's resolutions. Heading into my 65th birthday and retirement, I was hoping I could pass on another year, but it seems that it will come if I want it to or not.

In the past several years, I have had a few New Year's resolutions I started but didn't finish. This year I'm just going to have to make sure I honor my New Year's resolutions.

This year, I pledge to honor the New Year with a successful resolution. I want to retire from full-time, but keep working part-time as long as I can. That way I can save money, and hopefully Lynne and I can eventually just live life and spoil our grandchildren.

I don't want to complain, because I know there are others worse off than myself. I have complained about my health sometimes, but I know there are many others worse off. I have a wife who loves me, three boys to keep the Crawford name going, and - as of now - four grandchildren, with hopefully more from Jeremy and Janine.

All my boys have outstanding in-laws and good jobs to keep living right.

This New Year's, I resolve to stay upright for as long as I can and spoil my wife and kids, with good health.

I know it really doesn't matter if I eat healthy, get and stay physically fit. We know even the healthiest person can go at anytime and leave this earth. However, we don't have to push it along faster. Lord willing, I will start to walk more than I did this year and stay active as long as I can, so I can reach that 60-plus years of marriage with my sweetheart. I want to be active with a good memory and watch my grandchildren graduate high school, and college if they choose. I want to see them marry beautiful Christians, have their own children. I might just hold that precious child in our arms that may be our president someday. Anything is possible.

I want to read more, including my Bible. I want to read more than just the county sports section. I want to read a good book, listen to good music, and keep my mind as sharp as I can.

My wife wants to see a lot more of this beautiful country, and we want to pass through and visit as much as our counties in West By God Virginia as we can. We want to go back to Scotland and scoot on over to London and Ireland, if possible financially. If not, we will see a lot more of our country.

I hope and pray that we all can unite as a country and help whoever is leading our country. I hope and pray that we keep God in our country and have laws that will make our Lord and Savior smile, and it was good.
