Hornets Halted by Cee-Bees

December 18, 2018

The Hundred Hornets' boys basketball team finally played their second game of the season Dec. 14 and it showed early on as the Hornets' top scorer, senior Travis McCoy, picked up three early fouls and set the biggest part of the first half.

In doing so, Clay-Battelle took advantage of the lack of the Hornets' big man and went on top, 29-21, by the break. The Hornets just couldn't recover, losing 57-50.

The Hornets stayed right with the Cee Bees, led 14-10 after one period, and was only down 29-21 at the break. The third period went back and forth, but Clay-Battelle upped their advantage back up to 11 points, before Hundred closed out the third with a 11-8 run. The gap was closed to 40-46, in favor of Clay-Battelle.

The Hundred Hornets’ Travis McCoy tries to go up for a basket in the first half, but a Clay-Battelle Cee Bee player got a hand on it to make it fall short, but was guilty of a foul.

McCoy opened the fourth with a made free throw. McCoy and Cody Soles each scored a bucket before Clay-Battelle went to four-corners and forced Hundred to foul. From that point, Clay-Battelle was 12-16 the rest of the way, winning, 57-50.

Hundred did have three players hit in double-figures with Soles leading the way with 17, Norris with 15 and McCoy with 14 points. Both McCoy and Soles collected double-doubles with each one hauling in 10 boards. Cole Henderson scored four points and grabbed five boards, while Aaron Stephens tallied a two-point, but also had 10 rebounds.
