Pine Grove, W.Va. - Valley High School was locked down for a short time Monday, Oct. 29 due to an alleged domestic violence situation that occurred in Pine Grove, near the school.

Meanwhile, James Willis Bright II, 60, an Arkansas man, has been arrested and faces a charge of attempted murder.

Sheriff Koontz said the alleged victim was in a truck and was attempting to escape Bright, who then fired a gun through the cab of the truck. The bullets then went through the windshield of the truck. Sheriff Koontz said reports vary on the number of times Bright fired the gun, though there were two bullet holes discovered in the truck the victim was driving.

Sheriff Koontz said the victim managed to escape Bright and called 911. Officers responded from Pine Grove Police Department, Wetzel County Sheriff's Office, and West Virginia State Police.

There were no injuries as a result of the shots fired.

Koontz confirmed Valley High School was locked down for precautionary reasons, simply because the gunshots were fired in the neighborhood.

Sheriff Koontz said law enforcement received the call concerning the situation at approximately 1:20 p.m., Monday afternoon.

Koontz said Deputy Jordan Swanberg is investigating the situation.

Bright is housed at Northern Regional Jail, and bond has been set at $200,000.
