River’s Beard Eighth Overall

The River Pilots' Olivia Beard placed eighth overall in the four-class 2018 OVAC Cal Pokas Cross Country Championship at Cambridge High School Oct. 6.

Beard finished first in the OVAC Class A/AA and eighth place overall with a time of 20:55 out of 19 full teams and 38 overall. In doing so, Beard earned All-OVAC accolades as one of the top 30 in her class. She helped lead the Lady Pilots to a second place finish in the Class-A/AA, while teammates Camryn Caldwell (23:48), Kylie Piatt (25:58), Sofie Myers (28:12) and Julianna Taylor (32:11) followed, respectively.

The Lady Hornets' Rachel Snedden finished 48th overall with a solid time (23:48), while teammates Destiny Eastham (26:44) and Iris Woodward (27:55) followed, respectively.

The Lady Eagles' lone runner was Aubrey Hall (23:31). She finished 45th overall, while the Paden City Wildcats' Arissa Kline (37:00) and Paige Leonard (37:26) all had respectful times.

Martins Ferry won the 4A title, while Linsly captured the 3A, and Caldwell - A/AA crown. River took second.

In the boys' race, the Hornets' team of Jacob Kuhn (19:55), Cole Miller (21:30), Joseph White (23:38) Christian Fluharty (25:01) and Travis McCoy (27:30) finished 25th overall in a field of 29 full teams and 32 overall.

The River Pilots' boys team of Britton DeGarmo (19:55), Cooper Brown (24:88) and Justin Fisher (21:30) each had outstanding times, as well as the Wildcats' Tobin McEldowney (23:37), Brandon Hizer (25:09) and Paxton Pierce (30:55). The Eagles had two runners - Nathan Schubach (22:42) and Austin Pyles (22:59) - compete with quality times.

Martins Ferry, Fort Frye and Caldwell each won the OVAC Class 4A, 3A and 2A/1A crowns, respectively.
