From My View For Oct. 17

October 17, 2018
BY BRUCE CRAWFORD - STAFF WRITER (BCRAWFORD@WETZELCHRONICLE.COM) , Wetzel Chronicle

It's been a fast fall sports season with football heading into the final weeks of the regular season, volleyball teams nearing conference tournaments, and sectional and regional matches closing in for sports.

I'm sorry I haven't been reporting much on the boys' and girls' soccer teams. We started out covering them, but as soon as volleyball and cross country started, we didn't cover them much. I hope we can cover their last regular season games - at East Richland on Oct. 13 with the boys, and at home on Oct. 11 for the girls.

Their soccer sectionals will also be nearing, and I hope we can get some statistics and information out before their season comes to a close.

We have only Paden City moving on to the OVAC finals in volleyball, as the other No. 2 seeds - Magnolia and River - each lost their semi-final matches.

As soon as Paden City is done Saturday, it will be in the Mason-Dixon Conference tournament. For the past several years, the Mason-Dixon tournament has been around Halloween with Paden City hosting as the top seed. Let's hope it continues, so we can get that nice hospitality from the friendly Town of Hundred, and just as nice hospitality from Tyler Consolidated in the volleyball regional too.

What is nice is in the volleyball sectionals, every team is in it, and the teams that aren't winning a lot can put together a couple nice matches and compete for a state berth. It hasn't happened in a while, but it can happen. Let's get it done!
