The Wetzel County Spotlight of the Week for July 11, 2018 is shining on Magnolia's soon-to-be senior football player Sebastian Stickler.

At 5'10" and 190 pounds, Stickler will be a stickler from his linebacker spot for coach Doc Chapman.

Having grown up playing the sport since kindergarten, Stickler has the game knowledge to be a difference maker for the Blue Eagles.

Not only is he a blue chip ball player, he is also an athlete who has future plans in mind - and the intelligence to do whatever he wants.

His future plans include going on to college and pursuing the medical field, although at this point he's undecided as to where he will go.

Throughout his high school career, Stickler has been on the honor roll and is presently on the Principal's List with a 4.125 GPA.

He is also a member of the Mu-Alpha Theta. He has also received the Promise Scholarship.

Some kids can play ball all through school and not be effective. Sebastian seems to be the kind who gets the job done.

He will be playing wide receiver for the Blue Eagles, and the linebacker position on defense. His work ethic is second to none. Coach Chapman calls him a hard worker who pays attention to details.

He has lettered since his sophomore season and will be sure to get his third this year.

Last season he was named to the OVAC Honorable Mention list and was the Wetzel Chronicle Player of the Week during football season.

Stickler says he enjoys helping the younger kids on the football team, on and off the field, and hopes he sets a good example for them to follow.

"I have been spending a lot of time in the weight room getting stronger while also running and trying to work on my speed. I have a goal this year, and that is to beat Wheeling Central on senior night in our last regular season game. I then want to be a part of a state championship team," said Stickler.

"Sebastian was one of our captains last season and will be again this year.

"We will be counting on him to do some things for us to put us in position to win some games.

"He's a very coachable kid, and I enjoy working with him,"said Coach Chapman.

Stickler said he hasn't played any other sports since he was a freshman but hopes to play basketball this coming season.

He also said he tries to maintain a good relationship with Coach Chapman and his staff and will do whatever they ask of him.

In his spare time, Stickler said he likes to hang out with friends and play X-Box.

Although he's not overly big, Stickler's got a lot of muscle, and it wouldn't be wise to get in his way.

He wants to be known as a hard hitter and someone who can run and be hard to bring down when he catches the ball.

Good players have that kind of attitude, so he will be a handful for the opposition.

Best of luck, and have a good season, Sebastian Stickler. "Go Blue Eagles."
