Three Were Awarded Tad Fitzsimmons Scholarship

Three Wetzel County seniors have been awarded a $1,000 Tad Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship for 2018. The awards were presented on Awards Day at the respective high schools.

This year's recipients are Jenna Ferrebee from Paden City High School, Emily Rine from Magnolia High School, and Tyler Simms from Hundred High School.

Jenna Ferrebee is the daughter of Mary Rothlisberger Ferrebee of New Martinsville and will attend West Virginia University this fall and major in Speech and Language Pathology. Jenna had a 4.0 GPA while attending Paden City High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Yearbook Staff, Mu Alpha Theta, Advisory Council, and Student Council, as well as a senior class officer. She also participated in volleyball, softball, Sources of Strength - as a mentor. She also participated on the Science quiz bowl team. Jenna is active in many community and church projects.

EMILY RINE

While attending Magnolia High School, Emily Rine maintained a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. She was active in Theatre and Relay for Life. She is also active in her church and is on the Wetzel County Political Committee. She is the daughter of Myra Rine of New Martinsville. Emily will attend West Virginia University in the fall and major in Political Science and minor in Public Relations.

Tyler Simms is the son of Candy Watson of Littleton and Joseph Simms of Fairmont. He is a graduate of Hundred High School where he maintained a 4.25 GPA. He participated in Student Government, choir, track and field, and football. He is a member of the Hundred Volunteer Fire Department, Hundred Public Library, RAZE, and the Cancer Walk. He will attend Fairmont State University this fall and major in Business Administration.

The scholarships are funded from proceeds of the previous Tad Fitzsimmons 5K Runs/Walks that were held for eight years in Tad's honor, and the generous donations from businesses and friends.
