Local bluegrass sensation, "The Pickin' Daisies" has released its first album. The Pickin' Daisies, a duo consisting of Mallory Hindman on fiddle and Emily Bassett on mandolin, has diligently worked on the album for the past several months. The work covers a variety of classic bluegrass songs, including the 13-year-old girls' personal favorites, such as "Carry Me Across the Mountain," and the instrumental "Wheel Hoss."

Hindman and Bassett are in the seventh grade at Shortline School in Reader, and both girls have been singing and performing bluegrass music in the tri-state area for more than three years. The girls' tight harmonies and superb instrumentals have earned them several scholarships and talent contest victories, including a first place at the 2017 Town & Country Days show in August.

The girls, who are best friends, had the honor of playing on stage with Danny Paisley, an award-winning American Bluegrass artist. The duo also opened for Grammy award nominee Dale Ann Bradley, and they opened for the band Nothin' Fancy on May 11 at the Pennyroyal Opera House in Fairview, Ohio. The girls are accompanied by the very talented Rick Tincher on banjo, Ron Hoskinson on bass, and Vicki Glasscock on guitar. The group has been playing together for more than a year, and The Pickin' Daisies has also had the honor of performing with The Ebert Brothers.
