Communities to Mark Memorial Day With Events

Local communities are planning observances in honor of Memorial Day, May 28. The following are the events submitted to the Wetzel Chronicle and Tyler Star News:

Hannibal, Ohio: The American Legion Post #760 has several events planned. A parade will form at the Ohio Township Hall building and will commence to Hannibal Locks. A flag raising will be held at around 10:30 a.m., followed by a speech by the Master of Ceremonies, invocation, placing of wreath, firing squad to salute fallen soldiers, and then the playing of taps by the River High School Alumni Band. Residents will then travel to the Legion Post, where there will be a reading of the names of veterans who have passed away. There will be a short service and refreshments.

Middlebourne: American Legion Tyler County Post 48 and Unit 48 Auxiliary will be hosting the first service since 1996 in Middlebourne W.Va. on May 28 2018. A parade will begin 1 p.m. with services at the Gazebo to follow immediately. The WV Mobile Vietnam Wall will also be hosted for the first time in Middlebourne. Paden City: The Paden City American Legion Post 86 along with American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary will Honor our Military with a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28 at the Paden City Park. The service will be at 9:30 a.m. and will located at the Marina.

Pine Grove: The memorial service to honor our Veterans is conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 81, and will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28 at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

New Martinsville: The American Legion Post 28 will be conducting annual ceremony at Greenlawn Cemetery, Williams cemetery and Wetzel County Wall of Honor on Memorial day, starting at 10 a.m.

Sistersville: There will be a Memorial Day Celebration held at Riverside Drive in Sistersville on May 28. The event will begin at 11 a.m. There will be an Open House Community Picnic at VFW Post 6327 immediately following.
