MHS Boys Finish Second at Ellenboro

Magnolia's Brooks Parsons was in on three first places in the Region I track meet, and all five relay teams qualified with the 100 and 400 meter relay teams each picking up first place. These successes all helped Magnolia finish second 123.5-128 points to St. Marys on May 11 at Ritchie County High School.

The Eagles field events scored in the high jump, shot put and discus to start the day with Jared Barrows (137-8) winning the discus; he and and brother Jakob, (124-10) fourth, will be heading to Charleston as state qualifiers. Jakob (45-10) finished second in the shot put, while Jared (41-8) third and Jay Eller (41-9) fourth - all qualified. Parsons (5-8) and Jacob Myers finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump. The Paden City Wildcats' Matt Saxon finished sixth at 17-9.25.

In the running events, the Eagles' Jason Beisel (11.49) finished third in the 100 meter dash, while the Silver Knights' Mark Rucker (11.40) finished second.

The Eagles, Hornets and Wildcats didn't have anyone score points in the 200 meter dash, but the Knights' Jonathan Miller (24.83) finished fourth.

Parsons (50.88) won the 400 meter dash, while teammate Patrick Mirandy (51.22) was a close third, while the Knights Destry Nelson (2:11.0) of Tyler finished fourth. Spencer Shepard (2:05.16) of Magnolia finished third and qualified for state.

Spencer Corley (4:53.88) finished third for the Knights in the 1,600 meter run, while fellow teammate James Streets (11:31.57) finished sixth in the 3,200 meter run. In the 110 meter hurdles, the Eagles' Kyler Cecil (18.53) was fifth in the 110 meter hurdles, while the Knights' Nathan Barker (16.36) was second. In the 300 meter hurdles, Magnolia senior Jack Booth was the clear winner, while teammate Jordan Ratliff (46.69) finished third.

In the relay events, the team of Parsons, Booth, Beisel and James Stillwagoner won the 4x100 meter relay at (46.16), while the Knights qualified with a time of (46.70) and finished fourth. In the 4x200, the Magnolia team of Stillwagoner, Booth, Ratliff and Mirandy finished second (1:35.50) to St Marys (1:34.89) in a very competitive race. The Tyler team scored and finished sixth at 1:38.55.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ethan Herrick, Beisel, Mirandy and Parsons took home first at (3:31.40). Meanwhile, in the 4x800 meter relay, the Eagle team of Logan Beegle, Beisel, Herrick and Shepard (8:53.22) finished third, while the Knights placed second at (8:41.33).

In the 4x 110 meter shuttle event, the Knights won with a time of (1:03.92), while the Magnolia team of Booth, Cecil, Evan Maxwell, and Ratliff (1:04.82) was third. The Paden City boys of Landon Smith, Seth Bohrer, Alex McCoy and Steven Smith (1:07.33) was fifth and qualified for state.
