April 25, 2018
Wetzel Chronicle

Always constant in the circle, Wheeling Jesuit Cardinal senior Mallory Chapman showed her hitting is just as impressive. Chapman connected at a .478 clip over eight games to recently earn the Mountain East Conference Softball Player of the Week honor.

The senior lined 11 hits in 23 at bats with eight RBI, while she fanned 41 opponents with a solid 1.35 ERA in 31 innings of work pitching for the award.

Chapman helped WJU to a 6-2 record in its busy eight-game week of contests.

At the plate, Mallory posted three multi-hit games, including a 3 of 4 opening game against Glenville State.

She also went 2 for 3 in both ends of the West Virginia Wesleyan twinbill with a solo home run and a double.

Along with her multiple hit games, Chapman scored three runs, lined three doubles, walked seven trips to the plate and swiped two bases.

In the circle, the three-time All-MEC performer covered 31.0 innings of work where she allowed six earned runs, 22 hits and six free passes to her strong 41 strikeouts.

The New Martinsville, W.Va. native struck out 12 West Liberty hitters and bested the mark two nights later with 13 against Fairmont State where she did not walk a single hitter in either complete-game outing.

For the season, Chapman is hitting .307 with 31 hits in 101 at bats with nine runs, 16 RBI, 11 doubles and three home runs, while walking 14 times.

As a pitcher, the veteran Cardinal has 146 strikeouts over 155.0 innings of work and a 1.99 ERA with 12 victories.
