Lady Eagles Defeat St. Marys

The Magnolia Blue Eagles heated up a cold night with seven hits, while cooling down the St. Marys bats on two hits, for a 7-4 victory over St Marys April 6 at Magnolia's Hydro Field.

The Eagles opened the bottom half of the second inning with three runs when Ashlyn Piekarski opened the frame with a single, with L. Whiteman reaching base on a walk. Via Anderson hit a rope that was ruled an error that scored Lauren Anderson, who ran for Piekarski. Then Kenna Petin singled, scoring Whiteman, who scored an error to go on top, 3-0, after two.

Magnolia added a run in the third and another run in the fifth before tacking on two insurance runs in the sixth on four hits and an error.

St. Marys wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring all four in the sixth inning on two hits and three Blue Eagle errors to pull a little closer before Ashley Tharp set the Blue Devils down in order in the top of the seven with two ground-outs and a strikeout.

Tharp walked three and struck-out five in gaining the win from the circle, while adding a single from the plate. Kyndra Pilant, Ashlyn Piekarski and L. Whiteman each singled and doubled to pace the Eagles offense. Via Anderson, K. Petin and Alex Berger each singled for Magnolia.

Magnolia 11, Wirt 5

Magnolia scored 11 runs on 22 hits with seven players recording multiple hits to lead the Blue Eagles to a 11-5 victory over a powerful Wirt Tiger team April 5 in Wirt County.

After taking a 2-1 lead after two innings, the Lady Eagles scored six runs in the third on seven hits, one walk with Ashley Tharp banging out a single and a double leading the charge.

Wirt scored two runs in the bottom half and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while the visitors crossed the plate with a run in the fourth and two more in the seventh that put the game out of reach.

Ashlyn Piekarski got the win from the circle, struck-out four and walked two. Tharp paced the Eagles with three singles and a pair of doubles, while L. Whiteman doubled and singled three times.

In addition, Kyndra Pilant doubled and singled twice. K Petin, had her best offensive game of the season, poudning out three singles, along with Via Anderson. Lauren Anderson and Piekarski each belted two singles, while K Anderson smacked a single.
