BY CHAD TURNER - Staff Writer (cturner@tylerstarnews.com) , Wetzel Chronicle

Susie's Crafts, located at 101 N. 4th Ave. Paden City, has announced its imminent closure. Owner Susie Henthorn has been in the craft business for 20 years now but has decided to get out of the retail aspect of crafts.

The closure is not an easy one. Henthorn has developed a great working relationship with her crafters and customers over the years, and she will miss them greatly.

Crafting supplies, craft displays and some crafts will being going on sale in order to clear out the Susie's Crafts building. The building has expanded and grown a great deal in the 20 years, so there will be a lot of items for sale. May 31 is scheduled as the official last day.

A variety of flower arrangements are available at Susie’s Crafts.

Henthorn is very passionate about business that she has built. She explained, "This is my livelihood but with health issues, I need to get off the concrete"

Henthorn noted that, after 20 years of business, standing on concrete floors has taken its toll, and she will soon have surgery.

Also, an unfortunate accident occurred in January when Henthorn's house caught on fire. She has since been residing with her daughter until she decided it was time to move forward and take the next step in her life. Therefore, Henthorn will be moving away from Paden City to purchase a home.

Henthorn explained she has a great clientele, and some have traveled a great distance to visit her and her store.Henthorn mentioned she will continue to make crafts and attend craft shows; however, she is selling the building her business resides in. She will continue to make flower arrangements until she runs out of what is left in stock. She will also continue to sell crafts through her Facebook page, and she has been branching out by sending some crafts to other local vendors. Henthorn mentioned there is a craft shop in Bridgeport that carries some of her crafts, and she is looking for other vendors as well. She is also debating on the notion of publishing some of her own craft patterns as another angle of staying in the crafting business.

Henthorn stated, "It's been 20 great years and I've made a lot of good friends." She added, "To all my customers and crafters, I just want to say I'm going to miss you, and it's been great. Come see me before I close."
