Crews Respond To Fire At Former Ormet Plant

6:55 p.m. —

Clarington Fire Chief Jim Hunt reported the fire at the former Ormet plant on Thursday, March 8 was of an electrical nature.

Hunt confirmed the fire occurred at the former plant’s rod room.

Chief Hunt said the electricity had been shut-off for a couple of weeks while work was being done at the rod room area. He said the electricity had been re-energized at around noon, Thursday. First responders received a call at around 3:15 p.m. regarding the fire.

“It wasn’t a major fire,” the chief said, noting that some wooden materials and electrical contents were burned. The chief said an electrical box had “shorted out.”

Chief Hunt said Sardis and New Martinsville VFDs also responded to the fire, which was contained at around 5 p.m.

Hunt said there were no injuries. He also noted there were no chemicals stored at the area of the fire.

6:31 p.m. — Clarington Volunteer Fire Department confirmed the fire is out; the VFD also confirmed that the fire occurred in the former Ormet plant’s rod room.

Local fire departments responded to a fire Thursday afternoon at the former Ormet plant in Hannibal, Ohio. The fire appeared to stem from the vicinity of the former plant’s rod room.
