Magnolia Swats Clay-Batelle, 66-60

Magnolia's Kyndra Pilant recorded a double-double - 26 rebounds and 25 points - to lead Magnolia to a 66-60 victory over the hot-shooting Lady Cee-Bees. The Feb. 8 action occurred in an OVAC consolation contest.

The Eagles opened up a 24-15 first quarter lead with all five starters scoring points. Mady Winters led the way with 11 points in the period, while Pilant followed with seven points over an undersized Cee-Bee team.

Both teams finished the second stanza with 14 points, with Pilant leading the charge with eight markers and Winters tacking on four points to help keep the Eagles on top, 38-29, heading into the locker room.

Clay-Battelle's hot-shooting Haley Barr kept her team within reach, sinking three bonus bombs in the period, while Rylea Burnette added two baskets.

The Cee-Bees wouldn't go away, sinking another five baskets from beyond the arch; however, the souring Lady Eagles matched it with 10 field-goals, and eight free throws to pick-up their 12th win of the season.

Pilant stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 25 points and 26 rebounds for a double-double, while adding seven blocked shots and dishing out four assists. Winters also earned a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while swatting away three shots and compiling three steals. Logan Riggs finished with nine points and blocked two shots, while playing a solid point guard.

In addition, Kennedy Parsons tallied five points and dished out four assists, while Sierra Walker and Lenica Grimm scored three and two points, respectively.

Haley Barr paced the Lady Cee-Bees with 23 points, including six from beyond the arch, while Rylea Barnette tallied 15, and Abbey Ammons 14 points, that included three long-range bonus bombs.

Mohigans Send Blue Eagles Packing, 65-40

The Morgantown Mohigans outscored the Magnolia Blue Eagles, 43-14, in the middle two periods, holding off Magnolia, 65-40, in the opening round of OVAC consolation on Feb. 6 in Morgantown.

The Lady Eagles stunned Morgantown in the opening period, 12-11, before the Lady Mohigans took it personal and outscored the pesky visitors in the next two periods. The Lady Eagles then finished the fourth period with a 14-11 run.

Kyndra Pilant had another double-double, scoring 12 points and wiping the glass clean with 17 rebounds. She added five assists, four blocks and made two steals. Mady Winters followed with 11 points, eight rebounds and rejected four Mohigan shots.

In addition, Logan Riggs tallied eight points, while Lenica Grimm posted four markers. Kennedy Parsons swished a three-ball, and Lee Ann Smith ended the Blue Eagle scoring with a deuce,

Leighton Craft paced Morgantown with 14 points, while teammate Alissa Neal scored 12 points.

The Eagles outscored Morgantown in two of the four periods and was only down nine points heading into the second half, before exploding in the third quarter. Morgantown had just won the Big Atlantic Championship in Beckley on Feb. 3.
