Calhoun Handles Hundred in HIT Finale, 96-71

Calhoun outscored Hundred, 57-34, in the second half to capture a 96-71 victory in the Hometown Invitational Tournament finale in Charleston.

The Hornets outscored Calhoun, 18-16, in the first quarter as Travis McCoy tallied 10 points, while Cody Soles followed with six points to lead the way in the period.

The second period was almost a carbon copy of the first as Soles and McCoy paced the Hornets with eight and five points, respectively.

Adam Stephens also scored five points in the second, including a three-ball, but Calhoun turned things around a little and led 39-37 at half-time.

Both teams picked up the scoring pace in the third, with McCoy leading the charge for Hundred with nine points, while Billy Lemasters tacked on a pair of baskets from beyond the arch.

However Calhoun netted 30 points, while Hundred posted 21 markers to give them a 69-58 advantage with eight minutes remaining.

The fourth period was about the same as the third period, as Calhoun netted 27 markers, compared to only 13 points for the Hundred Hornets.

McCoy scored seven markers, while Soles added four points, and Logan Norris swished a three-pointer.

McCoy finished with 30 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for a double-double. Cody Soles followed with a triple-double, scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and just as many assists, while adding five blocks and had three steals.

In addition, Norris had eight points, while Stephens and Norris each drilled a pair of three point baskets.


Hundred Destroys Mapletown, 81-55

Hundred closed out with a 26-10 fourth quarter run to beat the visiting Black and Gold Mapletown Maples, 81-55, in boys high school basketball on Jan. 29. The action occurred inside the Hornets Nest.

After taking a modest 22-17 lead, Mapletown would trim the deficit to 36-33 by the break.

However, the Hornets would increase their advantage to 55-45, before going on a fourth-quarter run to end the game.

The Hornets welcomed Travis McCoy back from a bout with the flu. He had a career-high 41 points, while grabbing 16 rebounds and rejecting four shots for a double-double.

Cody Soles followed with 13 points, including a three-ball, while grabbing seven rebounds, assists and steals and rejecting four shots.

Logan Norris added 10 points, that also included a bonus bomb, while dishing out seven assists for the Hundred Hornets.

In addition Aaron Stephens recorded a pair of triples, while grabbing seven rebounds, making four assists and blocked three shots. Skylar Goff scored a pair of deuces, while grabbing seven rebounds and blocking two.

Adam Stephens knocked down a three-ball, while Martin Baker and Robert Hostutler each sank a deuce.

In the victory, the Hornets had a season-high 24 assists and 15 blocks.


Hornets Drop One To Union, 64-42

Union outscored Hundred 35-16 in the middle two quarters, en-route to a 64-42 H.I.T. win on Jan. 27 inside the Hornets Nest.

With many of the team sitting out because of the flu - including Head Coach Virgil Wilkins and 25 percent of the school students missing as well, the Hornets still managed to get the game in.

Cody Soles was the lone Hornet hitting in double figures with 15 points, that included one basket from beyond the arch, 12 rebounds, four steals and just as many assists.

In addition, Billy Hostutler tallied seven markers, while Billy Lemasters swished a three-ball and three free throws.

Cole Miller and Martin Baker evenly divided 10 points. Skylar Goff, fighting a cold, tallied four points, as did Aaron Stephens, who knocked down a triple.

For Union, Trenton Reed scored 17 points, while Colton Reed tallied 15, and Dalton Lough finished the double-digit Union scorers.
