Daniel Ray Kessler, 19, was arrested Saturday night and charged with first degree robbery, according to the New Martinsville Police Department.

Kessler allegedly committed the crime with an airsoft gun. He allegedly stole cash and a cell phone from the victim, reportedly a minor.

NMPD Chief Tim Cecil said he was called to Wal-Mart at around 8:30 p.m., Jan. 6, due to a report of a robbery in the back north corner of Wal-Mart's parking lot. This portion of the parking lot faces New Martinsville's Hydro Drive.

Cecil said he was not far from the store, as he had just been there; however, by the time he had returned to the scene of the alleged robbery, the suspect had fled.

Chief Cecil said NMPD Sergeant Don Larsen was sent to the Hydro Drive area to apprehend the suspect.

After managing to identify the suspect, other law enforcement officers went to a nearby apartment complex, where the suspect resides. However, the suspect was then found along Bridge Street, where Wetzel County Sheriff's deputies apprehended him.

This is not law enforcement's first interaction with Kessler, according to NMPD. Kessler had previously been arrested, in December, for allegedly shooting the ATM machine at Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union, with a pellet gun.
