Nov. 4 Craft Show Benefits Playground Project

October 31, 2017

Community spirit is making a difference in Sardis as volunteers pitch in on a project at the community center.

The Sardis Community Center has seen many upgrades in the past three years with the latest being the outdoor area. Owned and operated by Lee Township Trustees, the Center benefitted from a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant, which allowed resurfacing and renovation of the outdoor basketball court and addition of a picnic pavilion.

Sardis CARES, a non-profit group formed to support the center, has chosen the playground as their newest project. The playground had been closed through the summer because of construction of the picnic pavilion so the first task was to remove growth and old mulch. Volunteers used their own equipment to help with the first phase. Two businesses donated toward new wood fiber for resurfacing and another has volunteered time and equipment to move the ,mounds of fiber into place. Sardis CARES and other community volunteers will assist with the distribution. and then placement of new border. Future plans include landscaping, benches, and new euiipment.

To raise funds, Sardis CARES is hosting its fourth annual craft show on Nov. 4 with concessions being sold in the cafeteria and a country store in the hall. Sixty five tables of crafts and goods will be in the gym, hall, and two rooms that were previously classrooms when it was Sardis Elementary. The group will have another fundraiser going on at the same time as they sell Christmas ornaments with a winter horse and sled scene from early days of Sardis. The show is from 9-3 and all proceeds benefit the center as an outreach to local communities.
