Lighthouse CAC Offers Champions for Children Training

November 1, 2017
Wetzel Chronicle

The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center is offering a full-day Champions for Children training event on Thursday, Nov. 2 at the New Martinsville Campus of West Virginia Northern Community College.

The event will be held in Room 110 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those attending the training will participate in the following sessions: Criminal Minds: Inside the Mind of a Pedophile, Vicarious Trauma - The Silent Killer, and The Internet - "A Molesters Paradise."

These are not your "run of the mill" PowerPoint presentations. Chief Holler's training is seated in his belief and knowledge that multidiscipline and community approaches are the best way to protect child victims. These excellent training sessions will challenge each participant to be an advocate and a champion for children.

Internationally known Chief Jim Holler will be the speaker for this event. Chief Jim Holler is a well known speaker specializing in crimes against children investigations and has trained and provided technical assistance to thousands of attorneys, judges, law enforcement professionals, medical, mental health and public health professionals, social workers, and advocates both in the United States and internationally on a range of topics specifically related to crimes against children. Chief Holler believes that the most important goal in working with abused children is to offer the child victim an opportunity to become a survivor. In order to carry out this goal, each member of the team must do their part. This includes the investigation, prosecution, and most importantly, the on-going services to be provided to give the child victim an opportunity to become a survivor. To learn more about Chief Jim Holler, you can visit his website at www.hollertraining.com.

"We are so pleased to be able to offer this specialized training to our area Multi-disciplinary team members and to our local community" says Susan Scharf, Executive Director of The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center. "Our hope is that those attending this training will have the common goal of creating a child-safe world where children are free from abuse."
