MHS Win Four, Lose One In Fall Brawl

The Blue Eagles volleyball team made its way down to Parkersburg South on Oct. 7 to participate in the annual Fall Brawl, inside the Rod Oldham Athletic Center. The Eagles defeated John Marshall, 25-17, 15-25 and 15-13; Williamstown 27-25, 23-25 and 15-7; Herbert Hoover 25-22 and 25-17; Brooke 25-11 and 28-26, before bowing to the eventual winner Parkersburg Big Reds 22-25 and 7-25.

Playing five very tough volleyball teams, Magnolia held its own before falling to Parkersburg Big Reds in the Semi-Finals.Ashly Kelly paced the Eagles with 37-points, while Kyndra Pilant paced the team in blocks with 32, and Mady Winters led in kills with 39. Lenica Grimm dished out 87 assists, while Via Anderson made a team-high 40 digs. Grimm also scored eight points.

Kelly added 10 assists, while Pilant added 23 points and 38 kills, and Winters added 30 blocks. In addition, Kennedy Parsons made eight kills and four digs, besides scoring 11 points. Kayna Anderson ended the Eagles statistics with n17 points and 27 digs.

Eagles Sweep Season Against Pilots

The Dynamic Duo of Kyndra Pilant and Mady Winters guarded the net with six blocks Tuesday, Oct. 3, and was spot-on with their pin-point (18) kills, while adding making four service aces with 14 and five points, respectively, as they led Magnolia to a season-series sweep of the River Pilots, 25-10, 25-19 and 25-15.

After winning the first set rather easily, 25-10, the Lady Pilots made a game of it in the second set, before Magnolia flew by late to grab a 2-0 lead in the best of five, winning 25-19.

In the third set, both teams made runs, but when it counted the most, the Lady Eagles prevailed at 25-15 to win the match, and claim the season sweep at home.

Kennedy Parsons rose to the top, providing seven kills, while Lenica Grimm tallied 12 points, that included five service aces and 28 assists. Ashly Kelly added eight points, two aces and two kills, while Kayna Anderson tacked on seven points and seven digs. Via Anderson contributed five digs for all the Blue Eagle statistics.
