Valley Slips By Parkersburg Catholic

The Lumberjacks duo of Levi Streets and Tyler Kocher rushed for 160-yards and two touchdowns to lead Valley to a 20-12 victory over Parkersburg Catholic Sept. 29 on Tom West Field.

The Lumberjacks went on a nine-play 77-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a Kocher 24-yard touchdown run to give Valley a 6-0 lead to open the game. During the drive, Valley was facing a fourth and five, with Kocher connecting with Austin Lowe for 10-yards to keep the drive going, and two plays later, they scored with 46 second left in the opening period.

After the ensuing kick, the Lumberjacks' defense help the Crusaders to a three and out in Crusader territory, forcing a punt. The punt went over the punters head, and Valley took over. A few plays later, Kocher hooked up with Peyton Bassett on a nice 16-yard pitch and catch score to give the 'Jacks a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter.

On the Lumberjacks' last scoring drive, Valley went on a seven-play 51-yard drive, capped off by a Kocher two-yard TD scamper, with Bassett kicking his second PAT conversion kicks to give the home team a 20-0 half lead.

After the ensuing kick, Gavin Streets picked off Parkersburg Catholic and went to the house 68-yards, but on the run, the 'Jacks were caught holding, that dis-aloud the Gavin Streets long touchdown interception return to end the first half.

Parkersburg Catholic scored a touchdown late in the third period on a 69-yard touchdown scamper to get on the board.

On the ensuing kick, the Lumberjacks fumbled the kick and the Crusaders recovered, and Parkersburg Catholic took advantage and scored on a one-yard TD run to pull the Crusaders withing eight points.

But, the 'Jacks would run out the clock to get the win.

"We just couldn't punch it in," said Valley Head Coach Logan Miller. Every time we would get close, we would shoot ourselves in the foot with a penalty."

The Lumberjacks made 17 first downs to 11 for Catholic, with the Crusaders making one more penalty than the Lumberjacks with 11 lost 85-yards, and Valley with 75-yards lost.

Kocher scored twice, and threw for another, picked up 60-yards rushing, and made four completions that totaled 62-yards. Streets hauled in four passes for 17-yards, while Austin Lowe and Bassett hauled in three and two passes, respectively for 52-yards.

Streets added 10-yards rushing, while Kocher netted 60, and Bassett one yard rushing.

Defensively, Lowe made 15 tackles, with 13 being solo stops, while Travis Leek and Levi Streets brought down 11. Jordan Williams had seven tackles, with six being solo tackles, and George Brown five tackles. Gavin Streets made in interception.

The Lumberjacks will take on Hundred in this seasons Back-Yard-Brawl Friday Night at 7 p.m. at Tom West Field on Homecoming Night.
