The Shenandoah Zeps snapped the River Pilots' regular season winning streak at 17, with a 44-12 victory at Sarahsville Sept. 1.

The Zeps opened the scoring with a Boone Jones' nine-yard scamper to give the hosts a 6-0 first quarter lead for the only score in the opening stanza.

Boone added a one-yard plunge, while Nick Miller tacked on two of his three rushing touchdowns to build a commanding 28-0 halftime advantage. He had rushed for 175 of his game-high 247-yards in the first half.

Jones opened the second half with a seven-yard touchdown, as well as the two-point conversion to extend its lead to 36-0 midway through the third period that instituted the mercy-rule, before the Pilots Lukas Isaly got them on the scoreboard with a two-yard keeper to end period one, 36-6.

Isaly connected with Drew Dietz for a 26-yard strike early in the fourth period, before the hosts added an 80-yard kickoff return and the two-point conversion pass for the last points of the game.

"We haven't lost in awhile. It's not a good feeling," said River Head Coach Mike Flannery. "It's growing pains. We have just got to make the best of what happened, and turn things around. Knowing the character of these kids, they will."

Jones paced the Zeps with 247-yards and three touchdowns, while Jones added a pair of touchdowns, as well as an 80-yard kick return.

The Pilots' Isaly totaled 73-yards rushing and a TD, and 152-yards passing, while Michael Johnson made five snags for 65-yards.

The Pilots will look to start a new winning streak Friday night at home against county rival Monroe Central at 7 p.m.
