Valley Lumberjacks Shut Out By Hawks, 40-0

September 6, 2017

State-ranked South Harrison scored early and often, and went on to defeat the Valley Lumberjacks, 40-0, Sept. 1 on a cool and damp Tom West Field.

The Valley Lumberjacks' Levi Streets took the opening kick just inside the Hawks' red-zone, before South Harrison took over on downs. "We had some chances in the game and shot ourselves in the foot and gave the ball back on downs and turnovers," said Valley Head Coach Logan Miller. "We never gave up and played hard the entire game. That Canary kid is for real, as well as their defensive front line, and we just couldn't get anything going."

The Hawks' Freddie Canary was a man among boys as the three-time defending Class-A state champion in track scored on runs of 14, 21, 16 and 2 yards, while churning up 238-yards of the Hawks 335-yards on 12 carries to lead the Hawks.

However, even with the firepower of the Hawks offense led by Canary, the Lumberjacks still moved the ball, as they were inside the Hawks red-zone four times, giving the ball back on downs three times and had one intercepted, knocked on the door, but couldn't get in.

The 'Jacks were also just short of the Hawks red-zone twice, and gave the ball back on downs.

The Lumberjacks' Tyler Kocher and Levi Streets rushed for 44 and 40 yards respectively, while Kocher connected with Peyton Bassett twice for 58-yards. He also connected with Gavin Streets twice for 10 yards. South Harrison moved the chains 14 times, while the 'Jacks moved them eight times. Austin Lowe and Travis Leek each recorded 10 tackles, while Levi and Gavin Streets made nine and seven tackles, respectively.

The Lumberjacks will look to get back into their winning ways, and will host the undefeated Cameron Dragons this Friday at 7 p.m.
