Stay Strong, Wetzel County

August 2, 2017
Wetzel Chronicle

On Friday, we were really hoping the forecasted heavy rains for that night would miss our county. After all, the Town of Hundred had just dealt with severe flooding.

We had no clue what we would wake up to the next morning.

As Saturday wore on, the devastation became evident out Routes 20, 7, and 250. Businesses and homes have been lost. People are left with just the clothes on their backs, struggling to pick up the pieces while wondering how they will rebuild.

Yet, out of the despair, we are also so tremendously overwhelmed at the compassionate and fighting spirit of the people of Wetzel County. In such a short amount of time, our first responders took action. Local fire departments assisted in taking in supplies to help those affected. Everyday citizens spurred into action, their hearts having broken with their flood-ravaged neighbors.

We slipped out to Hundred Saturday night and were so inspired by those volunteering at Hundred High School.

The rain may fall, and the waters may rise, but our Wetzel County remains strong and a shining beacon of hope and perseverance, through the storm.
