Sports Spotlight: Sophie Palmer

This week, the Wetzel Chronicle is shining its sports spotlight on the Valley Lumberjills' Sophie Palmer.

In basketball, Palmer scored over 1,000 points in three full seasons at Valley, and was named Third Team All-State as well as First Team Mason-Dixon each year. She was named Co-Player of the Year this past season.

Palmer had an 18.9 scoring average, with five assists and four steals a game average in the 15-8 season. She broke the Valley Lumberjills' single-game three-point shot and had her highest point total against Doddridge with 32 points. She also was picked as the MVP in the H.I.T.

Palmer was also an outstanding track runner this past season, earning a trip to the state track meet, and coming back with a pair of medals.

Besides basketball and track, Palmer played softball her first two seasons, and was a varsity cheerleader when she wasn't playing a sport. We asked her to answer a few questions about herself.

What is your favorite movie you have seen? Any Adam Sadler movie.

What your favorite book, and what is your favorite class? Divergent and Math.

If you could go back in time, who would you want to hang out with? My Pap.

What one word describes yourself as a person, player and teammate? You can have three different ones! Dedicated.

If there is a fire and there is only one thing that you can save one thing, what would it be and why? I would save my dog Roxi.

What is your favorite thing to do when you get ready for a game? Listen to music.

What do you like to do when your not playing sports? Spending time with my family and friends.
