Sivert’s Memory Inspires

June 28, 2017
Wetzel Chronicle

It's been more than two years since Davie Sivert passed away after a courageous battle against stage four colon cancer. However, his love of life lives on - not just through family and friends' memories, but through a scholarship, started in Davie's name.

For three years now, a scholarship benefit ride has been held in memory of Davie. Riding dirtbikes and four-wheelers was just one of Davie's many loves in life. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and welding.

Davie was a 2011 graduate from Valley. He was very active in school. He was a four-year letter winner in football, and was chosen to play in the 2011 OVAC All-Star Football game.

A few months after graduating from high school, Davie was furthering his career in welding when he found out he had cancer.

According to Davie's mother, Connie, Davie was "determined to live life fighting," despite the horrific battle ahead of him.

"He truly inspired this community and surrounding areas," she said.

In April 2015, the spring after Davie's passing, the first benefit ATV ride was held to raise money for a scholarship, started in Davie's name.

"It turned out amazing," Connie said of the ride.

"We were able to give four students $1,500, and with the continued support of everyone from here - to several surrounding states - we have been able to continue to give that amount for three years in a row."

Connie remarked that her son remains "such an inspiration."

"His memory is helping the community, the way they helped him."
