Paden City Police Officer Josh Helmick has recently been relieved of his duties as an officer. Helmick met with city council members on Tuesday where they voted in favor of termination.
When asked, Mayor Davis replied, "The basic reason was neglect of duty. He was given a letter prior to the meeting explaining the reasons why the Police Committee was recommending termination. He was subpoenaed for a case in Wetzel County and did not show up or call the magistrates office to say he could not be there. He was the lead officer in the case and the other officers who were involved did show up."
Helmick stated that he was with a family member who was deathly ill. Helmick will take his claim up with the review board in hopes of possibly returning back to work with the police force.
