Wildcats Defeat Lumberjills

Paden City scored 11 runs in the last two innings to break-open a close game to defeat the hometanding Valley Lumberjills, 17-11, in girls' softball action, April 3.

Paden City scored twice to open the first, when Hannah Loy walked, made her way to third on a single by Madeline Cox, and scored on a Aubrey Neff single, while Cox raced to third on the play. Cox touched home on a Hope Cooper ground out for a 2-0 lead.

The Lumberjills matched the two runs in the bottom half when Tessa Dundgeon walked stole second and third, and scored on a Gracie Hayes single. Hayes stole second and third, and scored on a Cassidy West base-hit.

Neither team scored in the second inning, but the Wildcats matched their first inning points with another two-spot in the third, when Cox, Neff and Jenna Ferrebee each walked to start the frame, and both Cox and Neff scored on a Cooper single and a Lumberjill error, respectively to retake the lead at 3-2.

The Lumberjills got one run back in the bottom half, when Deodgeon and Megan Brown were both hit-by-pitches and Hayes reached on an error with Dungeon scoring on the play.

Again neither team scored in the fourth, but the Lady 'Cats started to pull away in the top of the fifth when Neff walked, stole second, while Ferrebee single chasing Neff to third. Cooper walked to load the bases, and Ashlyn Moses scored Neff on a single, while Ferrebee touched home on a Valley error to extend their lead to 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Hayes tomahawked a double to open the bottom half of the bottom of the fifth. West knocked in Hayes, stole second and scored on a

Brooklyn McCaslin single. Hannah McKelvey knocked in the go ahead run on a ground-out to give the hosts a 7-6 lead.

Paden City put the game away in their final two at bats, scoring 11 runs in their last two at bats, while Valley managed four more in the sixth and were held scoreless in the seventh.

Hayes and McCaslin each knocked in a pair on a single and a double, while West plated two with a pair of base-hits, and Sydney Bucher added an RBI single to lead the 11-hit Valley attack.

Megan Brown went the distance, struck-out four and walked 11 to get the loss from the circle.

Meanwhile the 'Cats Caitlyn Stewart got the win from the mound, struck-out three and walked three, while Neff came in relief, struck-out two and walked a pair.

Ashlyn Moses had the big stick on this night as she singled and smacked two triples, while knocking in five teammates to lead the 11-hit attack. Shelby Gatain singled and doubled, plated three, while knocking in three runs. Cox singled twice, while Loy doubled, and

Neff and Katrina Heasley each added an RBI single.
