To The Editor,

The New Martinsville Police Department dispatchers' "A Calm Stocking of Cheer" was a huge success.

We would like to take this time to thank all who donated to the cause and helped to make the first year of our project one to be proud of. The support shown was nothing less than amazing.

Numerous local businesses assisted our cause, including The Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary Post #28, Wetzel County Association of Retired School Employees, Family Dollar (New Martinsville and Pine Grove), Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, McDonalds, Wendys, Arbys, Taco Bell, Burger King, The New Martinsville Methodist Church, Rebecca Circle United Methodist Church, The Church of God, along with numerous individuals throughout the county. We even had some individuals donate, in one way or another, who are not even residents of our area. We can't even begin to list everyone who donated, and we want each of them to know they're appreciated more than they can imagine. We could not have made this project a reality without the help of these wonderfully generous people.

We want to keep our "A Calm Stocking of Cheer" project alive and booming for years to come. The 2016 project was geared around those children who do not qualify for the Shop With a Cop/First Responder program. Our stocking project picked up where that program left off and made approximately 500 stockings for the children in Wetzel County.

2017, and future years, will be a little different. We are changing the project in order to encompass more children. Our goal is to supply every child, in grades pre-k through fourth grades, with a stocking in all four of the county's elementary schools. Students in fifth through eighth grades, in three of the schools; and fifth through sixth grade, in the remaining school, will receive a Christmas card, along with a gift certificate enclosed from an area business. Keeping with the "No Child Left Behind" policy. This change is being implemented due to the fear of a child feeling as if they were being left out. Christmas is for the children, and each one of them deserve a little extra cheer.

New Martinsville Police Department dispatchers are accepting donations now until December 2017. Donations can be dropped off at NMPD. Pick-up is available if needed. Donations can be mailed to: New Martinsville Police Department Stocking Project, 193 Main Street, New Martinsville, WV 26155. If sending a monetary donation, please be sure to place a memo stating it is for the "Stocking Project." This is so the monies can be recorded properly with the City Recorder. Questions can be answered by calling 304-398-2082, 304-771-8435, 304-815-4547, or NMPD at 304-455-9100.

Thank you all again, and God Bless

Billie Zimmerman and Brittany Young
