New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor Jr. Olympic Skills youth basketball shooting competition, Saturday, May 10 at Magnolia High School beginning at 10 a.m. Participants must bring their birth certificates.

The event is a free national grassroots skills competition that provides both boys and girls ages, 8 to 13, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in basketball.

Jr. Olympic Skills Competition encourages youth participation and emphasizes fair and friendly competition. Participants have the opportunity to advance through three levels of competition, including Local, Regional and the National Finals. Each sport is scored individually and the boys and girls compete separately. The participants are also divided into 3 age groups.

There is no charge for this program. Winners in each age group will advance to the regional competition.
