States or bodies politic are to be considered as moral persons having a public will, capable and free to do right and wrong.”—-Chancellor of New York, James Kent, 1826
“Politic” means merely “as a citizen.” Kent’s words over 100 years ago are still true today. One citizen votes and as those votes become many they constitute the public will. Votes have the capability of being right or wrong, but they are important in that they demonstrate our freedom to make a choice—even if it is a wrong one.
So as you read through these pages of politicians’ views on a variety of subjects that we hope are relevant to the future of Wetzel County, consider them wisely.
Make your vote part of a moral decision and, right or wrong, your freedom to vote as a citizen will prevail. |
